Irondequoit I-Square Project Closer to Reality

Plans to transform Irondequoit are one step closer to becoming reality. On Monday night the community got a look at what the proposed I-Square Project would look like. Businessman Mike Nolan unveiled the plans in front of the town board.
"I'm really excited about the project," said Lynn Zicari. Zicari has lived in Irondeqouit for nearly 20 years and hopes the project will bring life back into the town. "There is new stuff coming in. It will be bigger, but it's still the small feel. It's not a big box store," said Zicari. Nolan plans to tear down existing buildings and replace with seven new ones. The space, 87-thousand square feet, will be filled with apartments and retail space.
"It doesn't belong there," said Richard Colucci. His son lives in the neighborhood that would be under construction. Colucci says it's not a good fit for Irondequoit. "They don't have enough parking for the buildings that are going to be there," said Colucci. "Irondequoit is an old, small town with a lot of older people. I don't care what you put in there it's not going to draw people from Pittsford or Penfield."
Nolan, who owns a manufacturing company in Rochester, has spent $3 million buying property. The project will cost between 10 and 12 million dollars. Nolan would like to see a high-end restaurant and kid-friendly businesses set up shop. He is hoping to make money, but says he really just wants to give back to the community.
Nolan hopes to start construction by next summer. They have set up a Facebook page to get input on what businesses people would like to see in I-Square.

how many stores and apts we need the whole world in turning into a store. why do you people have the need to shop and shop. go take a walk. im sick of this stupid madness. im sure he gave the townc ouncil some money like they all do.
