GM Technology Showcase

"We're going to have a technology showcase that allows us to take the technology out of our high security facility and put it on display for the public to be able to come out and look at what we do here," says Daniel O'Connell the Director of Global FIeld Service, Support and Infrastructure at GM's Fuel Cell Facility in Honeoye Falls.

For those who like technology, there will be demonstrations and a chance to look at how a fuel cell works. "It takes hydrogen from the tank that we use as the fuel and oxygen out of the air and combines them together inside of a fuel cell and basically makes clean electricity. That's a very efficient process," O'Connell says.

There will be activities for the kids too.

And, "you'll be able to drive a fuel cell, be able to drive a Volt, and also be able to drive one of our new vehicles the Sonic coming out in December, so you'll be able to drive and get a sneak preview of that."

One of the big attractions to this open house is that people will be able to see the EN-V It's a first of it's kind vehicle that's being kept under wraps. The EN-V is a two wheeled networked electric vehicle. It basically drives itself and it could be the car of the future. Just one example of the things scientists here are working towards.

"We want to reconnect with the community, let them know we are still here and that we are part of what's going on in our area."

The technology showcase is Saturday from 10-3 at 111 W. Main Street in Honeoye Falls. It will go on rain or shine. For more information, click here.
