For the first play of its new season, Geva Theatre Center pulled out a show-stopper tailor-made for seniors and their families:  a tribute to local couples who've been married 50 years or more.

The play is "On Golden Pond."   It tells the story of Norman and Ethel Thayer.

During their annual trip to their cottage in Maine, they confront the reality of aging, decline, conflict, love and healing.  To help celebrate the production, Geva opens each show with a round of applause for long-married couples in the audience.

"It's calling out attention to our longevity and 54 years together," says Pat Naber.

"There have been tough days as everybody has, but with Pat's faith we've managed to overcome them.  My faith too," says Ray Naber.

Gracing the wall in the theatre lobby?  Photographs of local couples, from wedding day to present day.  "It's just a fantastic way to engage our audience and the commuinity and the work that we're doing," says Tom Parrish, Executive Director of Geva Theatre Center.   "What we do isn't just entertainment it's relevant to this community and celebrating the assets of this community."

At Geva, "On Golden Pond" isn't just about the Thayers, it's about the Nabers and so many more.
