After the IronPigs posted a first inning run against Rochester starter Eric Hacker, the Wings quickly tied the score. Dustin Martin hit his 14th homer of the season off Lehigh Valley starter and former Wing Brian Bass, a two-out shot that evened the score at 1-1.
The Wings took the lead in the bottom of the third in a rally started by Rene Rivera's lead off double. After Brandon Roberts worked a walk, the resurgent Ray Chang hit a single to score Rivera. Martin loaded the bases with another walk and with Jeff Bailey batting, Bass threw a wild pitch, allowing Roberts to score. Bailey then scraped out a single to score Chang and give the Wings a 4-1 lead.
The 'Pigs quickly got two runs back though. After Hacker allowed a lead off walk, Josh Barfield tripled to knock the first run in and quickly scored on a ground out. Lehigh Valley mounted a series of threats over the next couple of innings, but left a runner stranded on third both times.
The Wings scored two insurance runs off the IronPigs' third pitcher of the night, reliever Aaron Heilman. Aaron Bates started the inning with a walk and was followed by a single by Dinkelman. Rivera then hit the perfect sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position. An RBI ground out by Toby Gardenhire scored the first run of the inning, and Roberts singled in the other.
The insurance runs proved beneficial, as Lehigh Valley scored their fourth run in the top of the seventh. Aggressive base running paid off for the 'Pigs again, their second runner of the night scored from second off of a single.
Dinkelman continued to add to the Wings' lead in the bottom of the seventh. He hit a two-out two-run home run, with Bates on base, to give the Wings an 8-4 lead.
But the IronPigs weren't done scoring yet. Pete Orr hit a solo homer off Wings' reliever Dusty Hughes in the top of the eighth.
