Gateways Music Fest

Held every two years in Rochester since 1995, the festival features performances by the musicians in various venues in Rochester. Chamber, orchestral and choral music will be the focus of this year's festival.
All of the festival events are free and open to the public.
Special guests will be Michael Morgan, music director of the Oakland East Bay symphony in California and pianist Terrence Wilson, who earlier this year won a Grammy Award.

Thursday, August 11
, 5:30 -7:30 p.m., Wilson Foundation Academy, 200 Genesee Street, Community Forum on "African Americans in Classical Music". Presenter, Dr. Paul J. Burgett, University of Rochester vice president, senior advisor to the president, university dean and adjunct professor of music. He is a member of the Gateways board of directors and the Gateways Artistic Programs Committee.Friday, August 12
, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Atrium , Rochester City Hall, 30 Church Street, Youth Showcase Concert. Talented young musicians from Rochester and out of town will perform.Saturday, August 13
, 10 a.m. -1 p.m., Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre, 26 Gibbs Street, Open Rehearsal by Gateways Music Festival Orchestra, Michael Morgan, conducting, and Terrence Wilson, soloist. Public is invited.Saturday, August 13,
2 - 3:30 p.m., Wilson Foundation Academy, 200 Genesee Street. Gateways Community Chorus Concert. Conductor Jason Holmes, Eastman School of Music graduate, public school teacher and director of several local choral groups.Saturday, August 13
, 6 -8 p.m., Mount Olivet Baptist Church, 141 Adams Street, Rochester. Chamber Music Concert featuring several chamber music ensembles, plus a chamber orchestra directed by Michael Morgan with a 12-year-old piano soloist.Sunday, August 14

Gateways Music Festival Orchestra Concert, Michael Morgan, conductor, pianist Terrence Wilson, soloist.Gateways Music Festival Inc. is an all-volunteer, nonprofit, 501c(3) organization. It was founded in 1993 by acclaimed Juilliar-trained pianist, Arment Adams Hummings.
