Every time Honor Flight takes local World War Two veterans to Washington, it throws a party for them on their return.  These welcome home events at the Rochester Airport take months to plan, and the woman who makes it happen is Linda Frey.

Linda's commitment to these aging heros begins with her own father:  Bill Furnas, 87 years old, a Pilot in the US Air Force.  Last year, thanks to Honor Flight in Cleveland, Linda accompanied her dad to the World War Two Memorial.  "My dad said to me the next day with tears in his eyes, 'I can't imagine anyone going through life and not experiencing this,'" Linda says.

This past April, Linda began coordinating the Welcome Home Ceremonies for Honor Flight Rochester.  She leads 120 other volunteers.  Each party includes music, military speakers, student presentations, refreshments, merchandise, honor guards, and up to 500 of the general public.  A tall order, but worth it for the 50 veterans who make each trip.  "One veteran gave his Purple Heart to his guardian, another asked to be buried in his Honor Flight shirt.  It's a chance for us to give something to the people who so deserve it," she says.

Linda has coordinated three events since the spring.  Three more are coming up this fall.  To the veterans she serves, the honor is all hers.
