The Toledo Mud Hens fell to the Rochester Red Wings, 11-5, in front of a sold out crowd of 10,700 at Fifth Third Field on Saturday night. It was the first 11-run game for the Wings this year. They had scored ten twice.The Red Wings (24-35) rushed out to a big 6-0 lead over the Hens (27-37), plating six runs in the first inning. Dustin Martin and Chase Lambin each had two-run homers and Mike Holliman added an RBI triple.
Rochester got three more in the top of the third when Jeff Bailey hit a two-run home run a run scoring wild pitch.
Magglio Ordonez paced the Mud Hens' offensive attack going 3-5 with a two-run home run and three RBI. Thad Weber (3-6) took the loss after giving up nine runs in just 3.0 innings pitched.
Toledo responded in the home half of the third when Ordonez singled in Argenis Diaz. Magglio struck again in the fifth when he turned on a fastball and nailed a huge two-run blast off of the scoreboard in left field. Ryan Strieby added a solo shot in the fifth to cut into the Rochester's lead at 9-4.
The Mud Hens added a run in the sixth, to make the score 9-5 when Cale Iorg grounded into a fielder's choice that pushed across Max St. Pierre. Rochester added another run in the top of the seventh thanks to a RBI single to push their lead to 10-5. The Red Wings added one last insurance run in the top of the ninth with a RBI single to push their lead over the Hens to 11-5.
The Mud Hens will take on Rochester on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
