This News 8 Golden Apple Award winner is an experienced teacher. Patricia Rood teaches Kindergarten at Rochester School Number 36.

Shirley Clark is retired but volunteers at School 36 through a program at Community Place of Rochester. She's been in Pat's classroom for five years. Shirley asked us to surprise Mrs. Rood with a Golden Apple Award. "She's a wonderful person, she's so compassionate and warm. Everything about her. the kids just love her. She never raises her voice but the kids know she means business."

Pat has been a teacher for two decades, the last 14 at School 36. Principal Paul Montanarello says her glass is always half full. "Every day is a new fresh day in her class. So when you walk into her room it's bright, exciting, it's alive. And what you see is student engagement. So Pat is one who understands the curriculum, but understands the needs of a four, five or six year old child."

"Why does Pat like teaching Kindergarten? "Oh the little ones love to come to school. They want to be here, they smile. They love learning! They make my day."

Patricia Rood is a News 8 Golden Apple Award winner. You can read the letter we got from Shirley below.

Dear Channel 8,

My name is Shirley A. Clark. I am writing you regarding a Golden Apple Award for a teacher I volunteer with. She is Patricia Rood, Kindergarten teacher at School No.36. I am a Foster Grandmother in Pat's classroom three days a week. Pat is so devoted to the children, and I want so much for her to be one of the recipients for this award, that I don't know what else to tell you about her. I don't know how the teachers are chosen, but I'm hoping and praying she can be one. I have been with Pat five years. This award would make her feel so good. Thanks for your time.

Sincerely,

Shirley A. Clark, Volunteer at School No. 36
