The Diffuser Augmented Wind Turbine or DAWT is both more efficient and lighter than most turbines.

Which allows it to be constructed in places it couldn't go before like the top of buildings in urban centers, parks and even parking lots.

A host of local companies including Zeller and RIT brought their expertise to the table to make this a reality.

The turbine is 2 to 5 times more efficient than its predecessors thanks to the technology you see here.

While the blades and the shroud were made in Pennsylvania the rest of the turbine was put together right here in Rochester.

So far, AWR has $1.2 million worth of contracts for the turbine, and they say if interests continues Rochester could see more jobs.

"We've projected 30 to 50 jobs in the next 12 to 18 months and that's a conservative projection and that doesn't take into account all of our outsource partners."

The company will display the turbine in the Rochester St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday.
