No Confidence Results in Supt. Brizard Head to School Board

By: Lauren MacDonough
Updated: February 17, 2011
The Rochester Teachers Association will present its vote of no confidence in Superintendent Jean-Claude Brizard to the school board Thursday night.

Last week, Rochester School Boardmembers told News 8 they have no plans to fire the superintendent despite the vote.  80% of teachers voted last week.  Of those who voted 95% said they had no confidence in Brizard.

No legal action is due to follow this vote.  The RTA will present the results at the board meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Let's add a bit more fact... our state budget is only truly getting cut by 1%, and yet look at that gap. Many of Brizard's secrataries get paid more than his teachers, and there are now 6 administrators per teacher. And... each principal has been given full control over their school budget - now if they cut a program it will be their fault - not Brizard's. So the first school to make budget cuts happened yesterday - music, art, and library where completely eliminated. How is that fair to our children? And yet, Brizard walks free...

Letts see. The superintendent does not teach the kids, the school board does not teach the kids.. Hmmm who does that leave?

Hey is anybody watching this story? Now this imbecile Malik Evans who is the sitting President of the school board is calling for cooperation.

Lets see for three years Brizard has done nothing to cooperate. His policies are not working and he has not negotiated on a teachers contract at all. The board is not only responsible for hiring him but just rewarded him with a new contract and raise. Perhaps Jean Claude is not the only problem. I think it is high time that the parents or RCSD children send a message to the school board. They have operated with impunity to this point, it is really time to think about whether they are able to function at all. I personally think Evans needs to go....after all he has no children in the system maybe if he did he would actually care about what is going on rather than just looking to further his own interests...dump him now!

I think some people should know facts before they comment mokondis. First of Brizard has not written any contractual language for the teachers and they have been out of contract for a year and a half. Secondly, his policies...ie no child should be suspended out of school regardless of the offense makes teaching not only difficult but dangerous. I could go on and on but suffice it to say that 95 percent of the people he is supposed to be leading have no confidence in his ability to do just that.

Tonight he was absent from the School board meeting so lets add cowardice to Brizards long list of short comings. As far as Urbanski is concerned, what should the man do? He is protecting his constituents and by the way it was the teachers that voted not Urbanski. Do you understand that 95 percent voted against Brizard....you couldnt get 95 percent of people to agree the sky is blue but they do agree that Brizard must go.

That statement is exactly why the teachers dislike Brizard, he threatens the way they are doing things and they (Union and teachers) do not like it and the way it is being done now is not working! I also agree with grading them but the union will not like that.

I think the Rochester School Teachers should look to themselves for the poor student performance, test scores and graduation rates. The superintendent is not teaching and evidently the teachers are not either. Adam Urbanski makes me sick everytime he opens his mouth. He is the perfect picture of a union organizer.

I think the teachers should be graded just like everyone else is in their job performance. Urbanski and the union protect the dead wood.
