A young man who has fought challenges most of us never have to deal with asked us to thank a teacher who helped him be successful. We surprise Susan Bulling at the Everest Institute in Rochester with a News 8 Golden Apple Award.

Susan teaches English, American Literature and a class called Strategies for Success. This remarkable teacher made an impression on a remarkable man.

Kenneth Bremer has Ivory Bone Disease and he's visually impaired. He's written several books. He earned a Bachelor's in Social Work and just graduated from Everest with an Associates in Applied Science and Criminal Justice.

Ken says Susan helped him overcome several huge obstacles. "Susan went above and beyond the call of duty as a teacher to help me get through that class because there was a lot of paper-work."

"I love my job here at Everest" says Susan. "And it's students like Ken that make it so rewarding. And it just is a wonderful feeling to know they have the opportunity to have a great job they love just like I do."

Everest Institute Academic Dean, Eva Wilcox, says "Susan is an amazing teacher. She changes people's lives every day. She loves her students as individuals, it shows in everything she does. She works so close with them and helps each of them succeed."

Congratulations to Susan Bulling for being a News 8 Golden Apple Award winner.
