Dannika VanNiel
Grade 9- Mynders Academy
November 2010- Go Green Student of the Month
Dannika VanNiel isn't shy about getting involved with environmental causes. Whether it's acting as an observer during wildlife education trips, assisting educators in field research, or bagging up 61 pounds of debris form the shores of her beloved Seneca Lake- Dannika feels that contribution is the key to conservation!
Sharing that perspective is equally as important to this ninth grade student. Dannika has volunteered her own time with the students of Frank Knight elementary school leading nature education activities. Recycling is also a favorite 'green' option for this crafty kid- it's not unusual to see Dannika sporting an old-made-new item of clothing straight from her own sewing machine! 'Green' fashion is never out of style when you're reducing waste and reusing valuable fabrics.
Dannika's award as the Go Green Student of the Month means she'll be eligible to win a full year's scholarship to Finger Lakes Community College, to be awarded in June 2011.
