This week's Golden Apple Award winner is known for trying just about anything to get her students excited about learning French. We surprise Joanne Votsis At the Churchville-Chili 9th Grade Academy.

Principal Richard Dunham says Miss Votsis will do almost anything to make sure her class is interesting. "She is not a teacher that's going to be up at the board going blah, blah, blah, when you walk into her room you never know what you're going to see. So I never know what's going on but the kids are always learning and are always very engaged when they're in there."

Marty Belfield sent a letter asking us to surprise Miss Votsis. He had her for French last year. In his letter Marty said "She makes her lessons so nobody will fall asleep." Marty says "French is not the most exciting thing but she's always doing something crazy."

Joanne admits she does some unusual things. "I'm unpredictable, what can I say? You gotta keep them on their toes, you gotta keep them on their toes."

And she's been doing that for 13 years. 12 in the Churchville-Chili School District. "I just love to work with kids and making them love what i do which is French.

Joanne Votsis is a news 8 Golden Apple Award winner. You can read Marty's letter below.

Dear Channel 8,

Miss votsis is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had. She is funny and has great ways of teaching French to her pupils. She has energy and makes her lessons so that everyone will still awake!

My older son, Matt, had Miss Votsis for French at CCHS. He did so well and enjoyed it so much that he is STILL taking French as a sophomore at Binghamton University. He really enjoyed her classes.

Congratulations to Ms. Votsis! She was my favorite teacher in high school, and I'm glad that she is getting recognition for being such an amazing teacher.
