(New York) - Republican Joe DioGuardi won the U.S. Senate Primary Tuesday and will now face Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in November. DioGuardi, a certified publican accountant, received 42-percent of the vote.
In a written statement, DioGuardi said "I would like to thank New Yorkers for their support at the ballot box today." He went on to say "Gillibrand has abandoned fiscal responsibility and commonsesne accounting principles, like balancing the budget and spending within our means."
Sen. Gillibrand also won the Democratic Primary on Tuesday. She has been serving as New York's junior Senator since Hillary Clinton was appointed Secretary of State in January of 2009.
