Frankie Sanfilippo is the Rhinos captain, which means....

"Showing these young guys what to be as a professional," Sanfilippo said. "What to bring to the field, off and on the field."

It's not just words. Sanfilippo postponed his MLS career to finish college.

"I had one more year left and I was like, I want to get my degree."

It turned out to be his one and only MLS chance.

"I played for San Jose, for about a month, and then they just released me," Sanfilippo said.

However the release spawned Sanfilippo's thriving Division II career.

"Definitely it was a wakeup call for me," he said.  "Like you need to make a team, you need to be a better player, so that was a wakeup call to me and definitely helped me out in the long run."

Sanfilippo played on Championship football teams along with soccer in high school. He was actually in the same offensive backfield as ex-Baltimore Raven Justin Greene and current White Sox outfielder Carlos Quentin. And he's convinced football has helped him here with soccer.

"Just getting hit, it was like a rush, it was an adrenaline rush. You get the ball, someone's gonna hit you, so you know that when you go up in the air, there's some big guys," he said. "You just have to go up and be strong and win your battles."

Win enough battles and they make you the Captain.
