She sings, she tells stories and teaches science... and she's a News 8 Golden Apple Award winner! She's Paula Hickey from Churchville-Chili Middle School.
Whether it's a song or a story, Paula Hickey always makes Science class interesting. 7th grader Karlie Migliore loves Mrs. Hickey.
"She's really nice and she's never mean and if we work on an assignment that's boring she always makes it fun," said Karlie.
Paula Hickey has been inspiring kids for 16 years. There's something magic in the way she teaches.
"Magic is the right word" says fellow science teacher Karen Stefl. "She is amazing. I strive to be more like her in my teaching, but she has this spark."
Paula considers it the ultimate compliment that a student would honor her like this. "It's a wonderful job I have and I love every minute of it. These kids are wonderful. I get so much more from them than I can give to them. They make my days here wonderful," said Paula. Paula Hickey is a News 8 Golden Apple Award winner. You can read the letter we got from Karlie nominating her below.
Dear Channel 8,
I would love for my science teacher Mrs. Hickey to get awarded with a Golden Apple Award for many different reasons like.... She is a very loving teacher!
I enjoy going to her class every morning 1st block. Mrs.Hickey is someone who you can talk about anything and feel comfortable around her she cares for her all students.
All the kids in my class cant wait to go to her class because before she starts her lesson in the morning she starts it off with something funny that happened over the weekend!
I am an IEP student and she always goes an extra mile to help me. The main thing i would love her to get a golden apple award is because she helps me learn so well also, she is a very respectful teacher! I LOVE MRS. HICKEY.
Sincerely,
Karlie Migliore, Churchville-Chili MS
