Amanda Lauricella plays the trumpet and is teaching herself how to play the piano. But her voice is the instrument that's leading her to a bright future. This Spencerport High School senior says she found her passion at a young age.
"Whenever I sit down at a piano or start to sing or compose, it takes me away to a place that I can't find anywhere else, doing any other thing," said Amanda.
She's the president of the school's Concert Choir, she is composing a piece for the school's Women's Choir, has traveled with the school's award winning vocal Jazz Choir, and was one of just 60 students across New York to be selected to perform with the All State Women's Choir. She's busy, passionate, and driven to make music.
"I feel lucky because I know this is what I'm supposed to be doing," said Amanda.
"She's got her hands in everything and to be honest, I don't know how she does it all and still gets the high grade point average that she has as a student in the general population as well. She's a special person," said Alan Jones of Spencerport High School.
Amanda will attend the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.
"It's scary going out into the real world of music and leaving my high school music teacher, but he's taught me so much and given me everything I need to get out there and start making this my career," said Amanda.
Amanda will study music education and hopes one day to teach. Because she makes beautiful music, she's already living her dream. Her goal is to inspire other students to do the same.
