"The biggest I've won is the Scholastic Art Award," she says. "The National Gold Medal. I got to go to New York City, my dad took me down and I got to walk across Carnegie Hall. I really enjoyed that."

The masterpiece is called "Self-Reflection." The original is on display in Washington D.C. for the National Exhibition Tour of the Scholastic Art Awards. "It's a portrait of me," Pauline says, "looking into a mirror and it's painted with water color with oranges and reds and warm colors." P-SCHOLASTICARTSPAINTER2008-06-06-1212765087.jpg

Pauline works with oils and uses lots of color. She's a top student. She's hard-working. And she's driven to create! Her next big move? College, where she'll study fine arts. "Since I was a little kid when my mom bought me paint sets, I've always loved it," she says.

Churchville Chili Art Teacher Colleen L'Hommedieu says Pauline's achievements and personal actions demonstrate the true value of the arts in the community. "There are so many things I think Pauline could do," she says. "I think she could be successful with whatever she does. I could see her in graphic design, I could see her teaching, I could see her doing a number of things but I know art will be a part of it." "Hopefully not a starving artist!" says Pauline. "Anything but that, right?"
