Our News 8 Golden Apple Award winner has almost 40 years experience in the classroom. Barbara Rose was nominated by the parents of a little boy she teaches at Lima Elementary School.

Stephen Wright has overcome more challenges than most kids his age. Born at just 26-weeks, Stephen was a premie. He spent three months in the hospital and has been playing catch-up ever since.

When it came time to go to school his parents were apprehensive, until they met Barbara Rose, his Kindergarten Teacher at Lima Elementary School. Stephen's Mother Michelle says "We weren't quite sure if he would be ready for kindergarten at 5 years old, but she has just done amazing things with him."

"She gives 110% each and every day" says Dan Wright. "After 37 years of doing the same job the attitude that she has is just extraordinary."

We surprised Mrs. Rose during a school-wide celebration. A reading round-up!  Everyone was there in their western gear. She had no idea what we were up to.

Barb Rose is on top of many "All Time Favorite Teacher" lists in the Honeoye Falls-Lima School District.  Principal Jeanine Lupisella says she does great things for all her students. "Barb looks at every child for who they are and accepts them for who they are and helps them reach their fullest potential."

Why does Mrs. Rose like to teach the littlest of our kids? "Because everything to them is exciting and they're so motivated and so excited about learning. And everyday it's something new. It doesn't matter what you do. They're cheering and they're happy and just loving learning."

Barbara Rose is a News 8 Golden Apple Award winner. You can read the letter we received from the Wright's below.

Dear Channel 8,

We want to tell you about a special teacher at Lima Elementary School. Our son Stephen who has Mrs. Barbara Rose right now.  Stephen was a premie and she has done absolute wonders with him and all her kids.
She takes the time to call parents at home even just to let you know your child is doing great. I really think she is a great candidate for the Golden Apple Award.

Sincerely,
Michelle & Dan Wright
