Amerks Close Disasterous Season With Win

Amerks2008-04-14-1208181832.jpgThe Rochester Americans beat the Lake Erie Monsters in a high scoring 6-5 game tonight at The Blue Cross Arena. The win allows the Amerks to go into the off-season on a good note after posting a 24-46-6-4 record this season. The Amerks scoring champion, Mark Mancari lead the Amerks to victory with his three points (2+1) in the contest. Mancari’s three point effort earned him first star honors. Brent Kelly broke the scoreless game when he beat rookie goalie Tyler Plante to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead. The assists on the goal came from Eric Healey and Brad Richardson at the 1:30 mark of the second. The Amerks tied the game when Mancari put the puck past Monster goalie Jason Bacashihua. Mancari 20th of the season came unassisted at the 2:51 mark of the second. The Amerks took the lead when Marek Zagrapan tallied his 18th goal of the season at the 5:13 mark of the second. Assisting on the goal was the Amerks team MVP and Captain Clarke MacArthur along with Anthony Stewart. They extended their lead to 3-2 on the power-play when Mancari blasted a shot from the point to net his second of the night. Mancari’s team tying 21st goal of the season came at 6:17 mark of the second. The goal was assisted by Booster Club Rookie of the Year, Marc-Andre Gragnani and Zagrapan. The Monsters cut the lead to 3-2 when Healey collected his second point (1+1) of the night. Healey’s 22nd goal of the year came at the 11:27 mark of the second from Richardson and Michael Vernace. The Amerks took their two goal lead back at the 15:22 mark of the second when Amerks rookie defenseman Paul Baier tallied his first goal of the season. Baier’s goal was assisted Mancari and David Jarram. Jarram’s assist is his first professional point as an Amerk. At the 15:31 mark of the second the Monsters scored their third goal of the night coming off the stick of Richardson. Richardson’s goal was assisted by Kelly and Healey. To round off the eight goal scoring spree of the second the Amerks scored with 25 second left in the period to take a 5-3 lead. The Amerks fifth goal of the night was scored by Jordan Henry. Henry’s 3rd goal of the season was assisted by Tanner Glass and rookie Brady Calla. The Monster’s pulled within one at the 8:21 mark of the third when Richardson marked his 4th point of the night. Richardson 13th goal of the season came on the power-play from T.J. Hensick and Healey. Brady Calla netted his second of the season at the 14:11 mark of the third to give Rochester a 6-4 lead. Adding assists on the goal was MacArthur and Drew Larman. The 11th goal of the game went to the Monsters to make the score 6-5. Scoring the goal was Richardson who completed the hat trick for the Monsters with the help of Hensick and Healy.
