One of Rochester's fastest growing companies is helping grow the economy thanks to a partership with RIT.
"PAETEC will support at least one million dollars in R and D projects at RIT over the next three years on specific problems."
And they are projects which could change the everyday operations at workplaces across the country.
"Telecommunications affects all of us all of the time."
"Whether it's video, audio, data that's being shuttled all over networks...that's what telecommunications is all about."
Chance Glenn will help head up some of the first projects using teams of PAETEC employees and RIT students.
"You need competencies and expertise from different backgrounds to come together for one project."
One of the first big projects this collaboration will take on is something that affects you and me... We're talking about mobility devices--PDAs, blackberries and something everyone has these days--a cell phone.
"What these customers tell us over and over again is that the thing that keeps them up at night, the decision makers, is in general these mobility devices as well as wireless access, wireless network."
Jack Baron of PAETEC tells us his company is working with RIT students to develop a software for companies to help manage all of the devices for employees.
"They have got a lot of assets out in the field, othose assets are mobile, you've got security issues, you've usage management issues, different rate plans."
It's a partnership which could help streamline some of the toughest problems for corporate America.
"It is a pressing issue for a lot of corporations."
