Nine Section V Wrestlers Claim State Titles

HS-WRESTLING2008-03-10-1205164308.jpgSinglets and cauliflower ears have dominated Blue Cross Arena for two days. Sunday night was all about trophies. The wrestling state finals took place Sunday night with 12 Section Five wrestlers in the finals.

At 130, Ian Paddock from Warsaw took his third straight state title with a 9-4 win. The next weight up was 135 pounds. Pal-Mac's Alex Ekstrom also won a third consecutive title by a score of 14-7. Ekstrom and Paddock are juniors and will have a shot at four next year.


At 160, Spencerport's Bryan Bourne won 5-3. It was the first state title for Bourne. 189 pounds featured Cal-Mum's Nate Schiedel. He wins 5-1 for a division two title.


The only final with two Section Fivers came at 215. Spencerport's Paul Glover defeated Robert Eskander from Webster Thomas with an escape in the third OT, 3-2. Bob Dierna from Wayne (96 lbs), Holley's Quinton Murphy (103), Mike Nevinger (140) from Letchworth and Cody Hutcheson (171) represented Bath with state titles.


On the night, Section Five won nine championships.
