Webster Thomas began the year with 11 straight wins, but muddled down the stretch of the regular season. The Titan mojo is clearly back. Justin Scharfe scored a pair of first period goals and Brett Bannon added insurance in the third as Thomas defeated Queensbury to win a Division II New York State hockey semifinal at the Utica Memorial Auditorium Saturday. Thomas will play Thousand Islands in the state final Sunday at 3:30pm. The Fairport Red Raiders were not as fortunate. They got behind West Genesee 2-0 in the first period, but Drew Hayes scored on the power play in the second period to cut the lead in half. West Genesee scored the next five goals to put Fairport away. J.P. Durso added a goal in the third, but it was not enough as the Red Raiders were eliminated 5-2.
