HOLYCROSSSCHOOLA2008-03-03-1204563288.jpgThirteen area Catholic schools in Monroe County are scheduled to close at the end of this year. But students, parents and faculty members of one Catholic school came out in celebration Saturday night. A "blue and gold" celebration was held in the gym of the Holy Cross School. The event honors a century of history at the school; blue and gold are the school’s colors.  Holy Cross historically is known as the beacon of hope among members and staff tell News 8 that despite the bishops announcement there is still some hope for the school.

"We still believe that there is a glimmer of home.  If there are too many children registered from the existing stop at the 11 remaining open schools, then they will have to reinvestigate the possibilities," says Rebecca Maloney, principal, Holy Cross School.

Already, 70% of Holy Cross students have registered in the remaining open Catholic schools for start of term next school year.
