Great 8 - 2/26/08

Like we do each and every Tuesday, it's time to rank and read some of the top efforts from section five sports.  Here's Thad Brown with your high school Great 8.

Number 8, triple double for Briona Jones. 17 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists leading Churchville Chili to the Sectional semifinals.

Number 7, speaking of triple-doubles, Erica Yohannes became the first female at Penfield with one. 21 points, 21 boards, 11 assists in a sectional quarterfinal win.

Number 6, Justin Scharfe scored two goals and was named Player of the Game as Webster Thomas beat cross-town rival Schroeder for the Class Double B championship.

Number 5, Terrell Moore, Charlotte. 12 points in a sectional quarterfinal win, putting Moore over 1000 for his career.

Number 4, Jason Corletta also reached the millennium mark with 40 points in two games, helping Sutherland to the Class A semifinals.

Number 3, Marcy Manning, Avon. 19 points and 22 boards in a sectional quarterfinal win, then 13 and 14 as the Braves upset previously unbeaten Marion in the Class CCC semis.

Number 2, how about another upset. Franklin stunned number one Fairport in the Class AAA quarters thanks to 23 points and 20 rebounds from Zedrick Wilson.

Number 1, game tied, double overtime, sectional title on the line and Ethan Witkop gets a bounce....Not how they draw it up, but enough to make Fairport Class A champions.
