The River Rats threw 40 shots at Amerks goalie Adam Dennis who has been brilliant for the Amerks in his last eight games in which he posted a 5-2-1-0 record with two shutouts. Dennis stopped 39 shots to earn him first star honors. The recent play of Dennis inches Head Coach Randy Cunneyworth one win away from reaching 300 wins in his coaching career with the Amerks.
The River Rats took an early lead on the Amerks when Albany’s right winger Jerome Samson spun around in the slot where he found the puck and trickled the puck over goalie Dennis just over two minutes into the game. Samson (19) came on the power play with the help of Daniel Sparre and Jakup Petruzalek. From there on Dennis took control and was a wall.
Marc-Andre Gragnani scored to tie the game for the Amerks at the 8:27 mark of the second period. Andrej Serkera made a nice pass to the converted left winger and Gragnani buried the puck past Albany’s goalie Michael Leighton to extend his point streak to eight games (3+6).
It took Anthony Stewart 1:30 into overtime to give the Amerks two more point in the standing. Stewart slipped the puck though the five hole on the second star of the game, Leighton. Stewart's 11 came from Franklin McDonald and Stefan Meyer.
