She never gives up and no kid is left behind. Those words written about this week's News 8 Golden Apple Award winner. Donna Mineo is a Math Teacher at Rochester's Charlotte High School. She also teaches lessons about life and says each one of her students is unique. "They're my kids, they're mine. When they're here they're mine and I love them all.'
One of those students is Charlotte High School 8th Grader Kiearra Young. She nominated Mrs. Mineo because she trusts her and because she treats all students fairly. So we wanted to surprise this great educator.
Donna has been a teacher 25 years, 19 in city schools. Charlotte High school Principal Jeff Mikols says "She is the kind of teacher that goes above and beyond not some of the times, she goes above and beyond all of the time. She knows her students extremely well. She does whatever she needs to do to make sure they're successful."
Donna credits her personal experience for her success. "I'm a mom. so I'm a mom to them. I treat them like I wanted my children treated when they were in school."
Donna Mineo is a News 8 Golden Apple Award Winner. You can read Kiearra's letter nominating her below.
Dear Channel 8,
Mrs. Mineo is the best teacher; the teacher you can count on when you need her. She loves her students and she always pushes us when we say we can't do it, and no kid is left behind. When you feel down she brings you up and she treats us like we are her kids.
Sincerely,
Kiearra Young.
