Imagine beating out hundreds of thousands of people for a shot at becoming the next American Idol. Penfield high school Junior Alyssa Coco did just that and after keeping it under wraps for months, Alyssa is now allowed to speak about her trip to Hollywood for the first time. It was a dream dreamt years ago... to become the next American Idol. After reaching the age restriction, 17-year-old Alyssa Coco traveled to Philadelphia in August, waited in line with 20,000 hopefuls and stood before Randy, Paula and Simon.
"I have to say walking into that room and seeing them three was completely surreal," said Coco.
Coco sang Christina Aguilera's Beautiful instead of one of many songs she's written through the years. It proved to be a good choice.
"I got through to the next round," said Coco.
Coco got the golden ticket to go to the Golden State. Out of hundreds of thousands of people, only 164 went on to Hollywood. But like the length of her appearance on Tuesday night's episode, her journey was cut short.
"I thought that I would be totally in my element, singing and playing the piano, little did I know I would be the first one to use the piano. At this point, I'm thinking oh my God my piano is broken. It was the first note I played, I knew it, I knew it. It was terrible," said Coco.
So after the first round in Hollywood, Coco was eliminated. But that wasn't the last we'll see of or hear from Alyssa Coco. Here at home, she sings with Nick and the Nice Guys and two other bands.
"Will I do it again next year? I don't know," said Coco.
What Coco does know is if she were to ever audition again, she's going to check and re-check that her piano works.
