hitandrun2008-02-01-1201924214.jpgIt was nearly 23 years ago a Clarkson man was killed in a hit and run in Brockport. It was a case that went cold, but tonight investigators say they have new leads and that is giving the parents of the victim new hope.

"It's been unanswered for so long that it's hard to believe,” said Elsie MacNaughton.

For more than two decades Elsie and Herb MacNaughton have wondered who was responsible in the hit and run death of their son. 41 year old Calvin was walking down East Avenue in Brockport on an August day in 1985. Herb remembers watching the news that evening.

"The segment came up about this young man that was hit and run and before they got over with the segment there was a trooper at the door and I said I know who it was,” said Herb MacNaughton.

Now there is new hope for these grieving parents. Last March witnesses came forward with new information, giving authorities a person of interest.

"We have someone's name that has come up, but we are still trying to gather facts to see just how concrete that is,” said Investigator Steven Peglow with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

"Please come forward we'd like to know after all this time,” said Elsie.

1985 left police with few clues, a broken light and a vague description of a pick up truck. The MacNaughton's are hoping some 23 years later they may find some closure.

"You can go with a little peace in your heart knowing that someone has really come forward and admitted that they've done this terrible thing,” said Elsie.

Elsie visits her son's grave and talks to him hoping the next visit she can tell him the person who took his life has been brought to justice.

"Whoever it was he would forgive I know because that's the kind of person he was,” said Elsie.

At the time the only description of the driver was a white male. Police have not released a further description at this point. If you have any information you're asked to call the Monroe County Sheriff's Office at 753-4900.
