Deadly fire on N. Winton Rd--No working smoke detector in apartment

nwintonfire2008-01-21-1200931679.jpgOne woman is dead this morning after a fire on the city's west side. Officials say there were no working smoke detectors inside her apartment. Another apartment in an upper floor did have a working smoke alarm and it was that resident that called 911. That person escaped unharmed. Firefighters were called out to 242 North Winton Road at 1:30 a.m. on reports of heavy smoke coming from the multi-family home. They found one woman dead inside on the first floor. Police are not yet releasing her name. Firefighers say she died as a result of the fire. Tune in to News 8 Now at Noon for the latest information.
