You might say Greg Hammond was born to play brass. His dad plays trumpet, and his mom plays french horn, so it's only fitting he'd play the trombone. "Now we have a bit of a brass trio that we around playing in sometimes," he says. Playing the trombone isn't easy. "As you can see it's very hard to hit a note anywhere." he says. "I mean you have infinite places you can put that, but it's a lot of fun, I've been working on it my whole life and I love it."

This Fairport High School senior is so good, he was one of 6 students from across the country invited to audition for a solo with the Air Force Band. And he tied for first in the Penfield Symphony Orchestra's Young Artists Competition. His teachers say he's the best. "He's an amazing musician," says music teacher Rich Osterling. "The group that I conduct there's 120 musicians and he's probably right at the top of that list."
"I love teaching, I love being around kids, leading ensembles," says Greg. "I've taught a few privaite lessons myself, and I really enjoy it."
Next fall, Greg heads to college to study music education. And you shouldn't be surprised if he ends up in the place where his dreams took off! "I'd love to come back here and teach. I love Fairport!" he says.
