One man is under arrest in connection with the murder of two police officers in Georgia. One of those officers was from Rochester. 26-year-old Ricky Bryant Junior, who was born and raised in Rochester, and 33 year old Eric Barker were gunned down early Wednesday morning. Both were officers with the Dekalb County police department. They were off duty working security at a crime-ridden apartment complex in Decatur when police say they were ambushed. "He was one in a million,” said his mother Vicki Griffin.
Just 26-years-old Ricky Bryant Junior (pictured left) had already accomplished so much. A 1999 graduate of gates Chili High School, Bryant joined the marines in 2000. Six years later he became a police officer.
"He was a really good example for some the younger generations in this family,” said his grandmother, Claudia Bryant.
Bryant leaves behind a big family, including a wife and four children.
"He loved his kids. That was his whole world, his kids, he wanted the best for them,” said his mother.
"He's been out there trying to make things better for the community, for his kids for everybody else,” said his father, Ricky Bryant Senior. "I would like to see whoever did this, I'd like to see them brought to justice I'd like to be the judge."
The family did receive word that one arrest had been made. They will travel to Georgia tomorrow to meet with the police chief there. They are still making funeral plans.
