“He was known as the “pillow case burglar”. He would use a pillow case top remove any items he has taken from the home,” said Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Captain John Bergmann. Bergmann says 44-year-old Donald Garver may be responsible for a rash of burglaries across the county. “Mr. Garver was arrested following a joint investigation by the Monroe County Sheriffs Office along with Rochester Police, Brighton, Greece, and the Irondequoit police departments,” said Bergmann.
Police arrested Garver on January 2nd in the 900 block of Fairport Road. He was arrested after he was spotted trying to break-in a house. Police say they already had Garver in their sights thanks to a tip from residents in Brighton. “A couple of residents in that neighborhood saw some suspicious activity, reported it to the Brighton police. Through some good investigative efforts by the Brighton investigators they developed Donald Garver as a suspect,” said Bergmann.
Now police are issuing a word of caution to homeowners everywhere. “I would tell people to make sure you lock your doors, keep your garage doors closed, if you see anybody suspicious in your neighborhood make sure you call 911 and give police the opportunity to check the people out,” said Bergmann.
Donald Garver is currently being held in the Monroe County Jail . His case has been forwarded to a Grand Jury where he could face additional charges.
