Gates residents Susan Jeanotte and Frank Nuciola are on a mission. On Sunday the two went door to door along Gates and Greece Townline Road collecting signatures for a petition to stop a proposal by the town of Greece to develop 550 acres along road. “This is putting it right in our face at the town edge. The Greece people don’t have to look at this, we do,” said Jeanotte.
Nuciola and Jeanotte say the proposed project would destroy one the few remaining green spaces in the area. “You know they built this canal to use this canal for traffic. It's a beautiful space. People use it for walking, people use it for boating but don’t out up a bunch of buildings that we don’t need,” said Nuciola.
Lisa Cirrito lives on Gates and Greece Townline Road. She moved here seven years ago to get away from overdevelopment. Now it’s knocking at her door step. “We have wild turkeys that come up into the yard and we have deer, where are they gonna go? I'm not happy at all,” said Cirrito.
Jeanotte and Nucilio hope to collect enough signature to put the brakes on the project. They say they’re trying to save an important part of history. “You got the most beautiful pristine land. This land is like it was a hundred years ago,” added Nucilio.
