Monroe County wants their workers to be healthy. So they're taking their wellness program to the next level.
County employees are now signing up for the "get real fit" contest. They are writing essays and filling out question and answer forms to be picked for an opportunity to get fit at World Gym.
The idea behind the program is a focus on a lifestyle change, not fast results..
"We can only do so much as far as educate them, show them how to get the weight off or to be healthier and fit and also show them how to maintain it but they're going to have to do it themselves as well because they have to be accountable for what they do outside of the gym," said James Byrd, World Gym.
This program goes along with other county programs including the American Heart Association's Heart Walk and the Eat Well, Live Well Challenge.
