Winter weather to bring chilling temperatures

itscold2008-01-02-1199312771.jpgThe first snow of the new year has hit the Rochester area. What could be the most chilling part of this winter weather are the temperatures. Some of the coldest days of the season are on the way for Wednesday and Thursday.

“It doesn’t faze me, but I guess if they are not used to it (it can be tough),” said Andrew Culp of Rochester.

Culp has seen 22 winters in Western New York. He knows how beat the cold one day at a time.

“I was supposed to roof, but I guess tomorrow I'll stay inside maybe get a cup of coffee,” he said.

He is not the only one heading to the nearest coffee shop. Lauren Caccamise of Spot Coffee in Downtown Rochester says more people will get their hands on a hot drink and get their orders to stay in when the temperatures take a dip.

“When it's just cold in general, we do see an uptake especially in hot chocolate sales,” Caccamise said.

But the hot chocolates and coffee can only keep a Rochesterian warm for so long, until it’s back outside in the snow.

“(You’ll need) jackets, scarves, gloves, everything,” said Alicia Pettine. “(You’ll need) sneakers - no open-toes shoes.”

“Get used to it if you're staying here in Rochester,” Culp said.
