The first baby of the new year in Monroe County is a girl. Silver Ann Lee was born just four minutes into 2008. She was originally due on December 19, and her parents expected her to be a Christmas baby. It turns out Silver had other plans.Shavon Chochran of Rochester finally went into labor three days before the new year at Strong Memorial Hospital. At 12:04 New Year's Day, she gave birth to Silver, an 8-pound, 22-inch baby girl. Both Mom and Dad say they never expected her to claim the title, "First Baby of 2008," and they never expected her to take so long to get here.
"One of the nurses was like, 'she might be a New Year's baby!'," said Dennis Lee, the father. "We were like, 'as long as she comes I don't care!"
"I waited two weeks over my due date," Cochran said. "And if you see how it played out that she was born on New Year's -- good things come to those who wait."
Ironically, Shavon and Dennis both work at Strong Memorial Hospital where Silver was born. Doctors delivered four other New Year's babies Tuesday as well.
