(WATERLOO) - New Seneca Co. Sheriff Jack Stenberg was sworn into office Monday, and said the entire department is looking forward to change.
"Everybody wants to get out of this rut.," said Stenberg. "Everybody wants to stand a little taller and feel more proud of what they do, and I think theyre comfortable behind me."
The department made headlines in August, when Sheriff Leo Connolly and five of his men were indicted by a grand jury. The charges ranged from falsifying records, misconduct, and perjury. Connolly pleaded not guilty.
Six candidates ran in November to replace him, and Stenberg came out on top in a close race, winning by only 27 votes.
Stenberg said he has spoke with most of his new deputies one-on-one, and hopes to talk to everyone in his department in the next few weeks.
