Since then, he's undergone countless surgeries at Bethesda Military Hospital in Maryland. In an online journal, the family of Kevin Mowl says he was finally moved out of the hospital's intensive care unit.  Mowl recently was visited by the President and he was awarded the Purple Heart medal.
