"Katie's Closet" collects dresses for area girls

Katies closet was opened Sunday for another round of prom dress collecting. The Honeoye Falls- Lima High School volunteers are gathering prom dresses in the memory of Katie Shirley to give to area girls who need them.

Shirley was one of the five Fairport High School graduates killed in a car accident back in June in Ontario County. Her family started "Katies Closet" in order to work with the Fairy Godmothers of Rochester, an organization which collects formal wear for local girls.

"People are bringing in gowns and dresses for Fairy Godmother for girls who are less fortunate or cant afford them so they can have a memorable night at prom," says Kelly Palmer, a volunteer for “Katie’s Closet”.

The dresses collected will be displayed at an event that allows young women to select items to attend her prom. This year’s Prom Fair is scheduled at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center on March 15, 2008 from 10 a.m. -4p.m.
