Rochester made Time magazine's list for best medical developments in 2007 for the bird flu vaccine. The bird flu vaccine was tested by teams at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Not only did URMC researchers take the lead on some of the clinical trials, many area residents also participated in testing the vaccine, 750 to be exact. The bird flu vaccine is now being created and marketed by drug-maker Sanofi-Adventis and is being stockpiled by the U.S. government.
