Herring sentenced for attempted aggravated murder and assault

georgeherring2007-12-12-1197482637.jpgA Rochester man who shot at a police officer will spend the next 40 years to life behind bars. Wednesday, a judge sentenced 33-year-old George Herring on charges of attempted aggravated murder and assault.


It happened in April 2006 when Sgt. Mike Nicholls noticed he matched a suspect description. Sgt. Nicholls was not hurt. Today he talked about that night and how it changed him as a father and husband.GEORGEHERRINGCASEOFFICER2007-12-12-1197482667.jpg


"You just take a step back and appreciate what you have and kinda take that extra second when we're out on the street doing what we're doing to make sure that we're doing the safest thing we can do," says Sgt. Nicholls.


Herring is the first person convicted for aggravated attempted murder in Monroe County.
