Toy screening

Hundreds turned out Thursday to get their toys tested for lead. This free screening was put on by the "Pirate Toy Fund". Each toy brought today was put through the Innov-X System Analyzer Gun. It can detect levels of lead in toys by simply holding the toy up to the gun and scanning it. Organizers say this helps ease parents’ minds in light of the many recalls this year. But, this is only one step in the process.
"We're telling people, though, if we do find high level of lead, the best thing to do is to have the toy tested at a lab, call the Attorney General, call the manufacturer, and take it from there," says Gary Smith of the Pirate Toy Fund.
Smith is hoping to hold a similar event for parents after Christmas.
