On a day when most familes are celebrating Thanksgiving, one family is mourning a loss. About two dozen people gathered for a prayer vigil to remember Ajana Dortch, 35.
We thank god for the 30 something years that he gave angel," said Ajana Dortchs godfather, Bishop Willie Davis.
"What she gave, she gave her all 100 percent, no matter what she did," said Dortchs sister, Persephone Modeste. Ajana Dortch, as known as Angel, was remembered Thursday. Instead of gathering around the dinner table, family and friends came together around a vigil on fulton avenue, near the same spot the 35-year-old mother of 4 was shot to death early Wednesday morning.
Bishop Willie Davis said, "All of sudden because someone else was angry at another person her life is gone and her children are left here to grieve." Left to grieve for a woman who perservered. Angel had her associates degree, and was just accepted into the bachelors program at Keuka College. "She really struggled to make the best of life. To correct the mistakes she made early on in her life and she achieved that goal," said Davis
"All she wanted to do was finish school and provide a good life for her children," said Modeste Angels family is thankful for the woman who strived and worked so hard, but hopeful her killers will be found. "I pray her children can see that the people that took their mother from them will be held accountable to the full length of the law, " said Modeste
People there called her "Angel." She was shot and killed Wednesday morning inside a parked car on Fulton Avenue in the city not too far from where the vigil was held Thursday.
One family member says the mother of four was active in the church and involved with her family. So now, community members are trying to send a message to the Rochester community that enough is enough, and the violence needs to end.
Angel's death marks the fourth homicide in the city in the last week. At this time, no arrests have been made.
