When Matt Krautwursts header gave Webster Thomas a 2-1 lead with 15 minutes left in their state final, the Titans seemed poised to win a state championship. In the next ten minutes, Vestal took it all away. The Section IV school scored three times after Krautwursts goal to give the Bears a 4-2 win in the Class AA State Final Sunday afternoon and sending Thomas home a runner-up. Pete DeJong scored Websters first goal and the game was tied at one after the first half. Vestals rally was started on a scramble just moments after Krautwursts goal. Thomas stopped a first Bear attempt from the penalty spot, but Tom Keegan was there to bang in the rebound and knot the game at two. Matt Kristek scored twice more to close out the Titans. The game winner bounced just off the inside of the left post and in. Thomas finished the year 17-3-3. At Class C, Ryan Fisher sent a corner kick directly in to put Red Creek up 1-0. Marathon tied the game at one, but Colton Gregg buried a cross to re-take the lead for Red Creek and Anthony Roden added an insurance goal in a 3-1 win. Its the fifth state title for the Mules who end the year 18-4-2.
