Section Five puffed its chest and held its collective head high after another banner day against Section Six.
Five of six teams that qualified for the state quarters against the Buffalo teams will be moving on to the semifinals.
Webster Thomas may have scored the most impressive win, handing Williamsville North its only loss of the season in the Class AA Quarters at Cal-Mum high school Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Matt Schuber was tripped making a run just a couple yards inside the top of the box. A penalty kick was called and Mike Reidy cashed it for a 1-0 Titans lead.
With 15 minutes left, Reidy crossed to Schuber who one-touched for an insurance goal and the 2-0 win. Thomas moves on to next weekends state semifinals at the Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta.
Red Creek will be going with Thomas after a 2-1 win over Holland in Class C.
Bath could not find the back of the net and was eliminated by Akron 1-0 in Class B.
On the girls side, Jessica Dulski pitched a shutout on six saves while Alyse DiCenzo and Laura Hansen scored second half goals as Mendon got past East Aurora 2-0 in the Class AA Quarters. Mendon moves on to the state semifinals next weekend at SUNY Cortland.
Courtney Ayers made sure Arcadia will be going with them, scoring twice in 56 seconds during the second half leading the Lady Titans to a 3-1 win over Kenmore West in the Class A state quarters. Kristin Powers scored Arcadias third goal.
Cal-Mum made it a clean sweep by the Section Five Ladies with a 5-1 win over Maple Grove.
