Two dead in house fire on Upton Park (updated at 11:09 a.m.)

uptonstfire2007-11-09-1194623058.jpgRIT has identified the victims of a deadly fire on Rochester's east side.  Seth Policzer, 21, of Parkland, Florida and Syed Ali Turab, 21, of New Milford, New Jersey were killed in the fire on Upton Park.  Michael DiCocco, was critically injured.  He's in guarded condition at Strong Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit.

All three were students at RIT.  Policzer was a fourth-year computer engineering student..   Turab was a fourth-year communications student.  DiCocco is a fourth-year industrial design student from Canastota, Madison County in Central New York.

Rochester firefighters were called out to 33 Upton Park, near University and Atlantic Avenues at 2:39 a.m., on reports of a working fire.

Rochester Fire Chief John Caufield says two people were able to escape the blaze by jumping from the second floor of the two-story home, another escaped using a stairwell. Two others did not make it out, their bodies were found on the first and second floors.

Another person was pulled out of the home and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Chief Caufield says the home did have working smoke detectors. Police have not released any of the victims name in this fire. The fire is under investigation but at this point, it does not look suspicious in nature.

RIT is in the initial stages of planning counseling and a memorial service on campus.
