Ten people lost everything in a massive, 2-alarm fire on the city's east side early this morning. Smoke and flames could be seen coming from the roof of 172 Remington Street around 2:00 a.m.It was a resident of the house returning home who was responsible for getting everyone out of the burning building. The apartment units did have working smoke alarms. Seven adults and two children from several families were able to escape, unharmed. Those families are being helped by Red Cross today.
Rochester firefighters say the roof of the two-story, four-family home caught fire after a blaze broke out on the second floor. The home, built in 1916, is a total loss and is being demolished. Rochester fire crews are on-hand to monitor any remaining hot spots in what's left of the house. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
