Money for lead paint removal

leadpaintcheck2007-10-30-1193766589.jpgMore than one million dollars has been awarded to Rochester to identify and clean up homes with potential lead-based paint hazards.


The Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the 1.6 million dollar grant Tuesday morning designed to target privately-owned low-income housing.


Even though lead-based paint was banned for home use in 1978, HUD estimates 24-million homes in the U.S. still have problems. Mayor Bob Duffy says, "This money will be used to help 100 homes and units…”


Mayor Duffy says the money will pay for lead clean up in the city for the next three years.
