New York Governor Eliot Spitzer and New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine served as U.S. ambassadors today adding their names and the backing of their states to a global initiative to reduce carbon emissions.
The meeting of the minds in Lisbon, Portugal carried representation throughout Europe, Canada and New Zealand to frame marching orders effective August 2008.
Spitzer says the initiative sends a clear message to companies looking to do business here and abroad.
The mandate calls for granting price incentives among other things for the innovation, development and use of clean technologies.
Others call it a giant step forward in the global effort to combat climate change.
Organizers say the blueprint will help its partners reach previously set greenhouse gas targets more efficiently.
